About Us
Marshfield Farm is a home, a farm and a multi award-winning ice cream manufacturer.
We tend to eleven hundred acres of farmland on the Cotswold Way and every drop of milk in our ice cream can be traced back to the fields it first came from.
Our brand has a unique advantage in the ice cream industry with complete control over the quality of our product, from the highest welfare for our cows, to the sustainable practices used in our factory and on the farm.
Multi Award-Winning Ice Cream
Our award-winning flavour range is free from artificial flavours & colours and are suitable for vegetarians. Many flavours are Halal accredited, most are gluten free and our Sorbets & Plant Based Ice Creams are suitable for a vegan diet.
We’re thrilled to have won over thirty awards across our range, including Great Taste and Taste of the West Awards!
In the 2021-22 Best Brand Survey, we were also awarded the title “Best Ice Cream Brand” by the readers of Fine Food Digest!
On-site ice cream factory
Our factory is SALSA accredited. Thanks to heavy investment, we’re able to fill a variety of tub sizes for all ice cream occasions including 125ml, 500ml, 1 litre, 4 litre and 5 litre packaging.
We source local ingredients where possible and only ever use our herd’s milk as the primary ingredient in our ice cream: this keeps our food miles low and ensures we consistently churn up a deliciously creamy scoop. We then add luxurious, West Country rich clotted cream and British double cream from local dairies.
point of difference
We work closely with our customers and our Marshfield Farm sales, marketing and office teams are here to support all needs.
Our dedicated team of Sales Managers cover the country and can get any account set up with a route to market thanks to our network of wholesalers who offer national distribution.
We also offer a bespoke signage solution and our Sales Managers will work with each account to showcase their offering with branded signage.
Presentation & Upselling
Understanding the importance of POS and a good quality, presentable and eye-catching freezer is by far the best way to maximise your ice cream sales.
Our real dairy ice cream & fresh fruit sorbets can be used for milkshakes and thick-shakes, scooped to the side of freshly baked desserts and made into sundae masterpieces. Not only will they increase profit margins, these jaw-dropping desserts will pull customers through doors.
Bespoke In-House Training
Over the years we have had the pleasure of working with many successful scooping enterprises. From this and running our own farm parlour, we have accumulated specialist knowledge that we pass on to our new and continuing customers.
Each year we therefore invite our customers to the farm to take a look around our parlour and production as part of our "Scoop Training" sessions. Our Sales Managers can also visit sites to offer hands-on training with staff to ensure they hit the ground running for the ice cream season.

Yes. Our Rum & Raisin ice cream uses a 40% proof alcohol, however when mixed with our milk, cream and ingredient inclusions this reduces the percentage to less than 3%. We provide a full chemical clean down of our factory between making each flavour, meaning there will be no cross contamination of flavourings.
Palm oil is not used in our ice cream base mix, but some of the added ingredient inclusions do contain palm fat - however only from certified sustainable sources.
We do not make any nut flavours or use any nut ingredients in our ice cream. However, we cannot guarantee our suppliers' products are produced in a nut free factory and we therefore advice the product may contain nuts.
Yes, our plant based ice creams are made to a vegan recipe. We advise any customer who has a dairy intolerance or allergy to speak with a member of staff before buying a product. They will be able to advise how they handle allergens at site and if a product is free from cross contamination.
Please check the packaging before you purchase any of our products, this will clearly state the recipe and any allergy metrics.
Our Fruit Push-Up Pops and sorbets are all made without dairy, making them suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Unfortunately we no longer produce diabetic ice cream flavours as the diabetic associate advices business should no longer produce diabetic products, and individuals with diabetes should instead eat products in moderation as opposed to substituting sugar.
Our final products are not certified organic as many of our ingredients are sourced from external companies without the organic status. However, because our farm is organic, the milk that goes into every tub of ice cream is organic milk. We only ever use our milk in our ice cream, this means that over 50% of every tub is made up of our own organic milk.
The additional ingredients we use in our products are as natural and of the highest quality as we can find. These may not be able to be sourced as organic, or using an organic source, as to do so proves rather expensive.
The entire Marshfield Farm range of ice creams and sorbets is suitable for vegetarians.
Our sorbet range is gluten free and suitable for coeliacs.
Our fruit pops and our sorbet range are suitable for a vegan diet. We have also developed two plant based ice creams, these are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

On average, half of our finished product across the ice cream range is filled with our organic milk produced by our own herd of Friesian cows – the distance this ingredient has to travel is just a few metres! The rest is made up of the finest ingredients we can lay our hands on – sourced as locally as possible.
75% of our ingredients come from within a 50-mile radius of the farm, allowing us to use entirely natural and locally sourced ingredients where possible. Not only does this reduce our food miles, we can work in partnership with other local business and solidify West Country relations. Ingredients that can’t be found locally are the best we can find. For instance, our Vanilla Clotted Cream ice cream contains the finest, natural vanilla flavouring from Madagascar. 80% of our base mix is made from ingredients sourced from within a 50 mile radius, with 50% actually taken from the cows that graze on our land!
Our Scoop’s dog ice cream is made to a specialist dog-friendly recipe. Loosely based around our own ice cream mixes and made with fresh farm milk from our herd, we’ve then reduced the lactose content for dog’s with sensitive tummies.

Make sure the door closes properly and the seal is in tact.
There are certain factors, like the humidity of the air around the appliance, the frequency with which the door is open which can affect the amount of frosting that occurs. Defrost the unit frequently (minimum of once a week for a full defrost)
If a smell develops after the unit has been operating for a while (eg. a rotten, mouldy or decaying smell), this can only be caused by something not connected with the appliance itself.
Remove all product and switch off the unit.
Residues of ice cream on glass shelves and in the seals etc. Clean and sterilise thoroughly using diluted Milton sterilising liquid or bicarbonate of soda as instructed above.
Ice cream may have found its way onto the compressor and evaporation tray via the defrost drain. The residual heat given off by the compressor will cause ice cream remnants to emit unpleasant smells which can penetrate back into the appliance via the defrost water drain.
The compressor is the black motor type device, at the back of the unit, usually on the right hand side as you are facing the back of the unit. Above the compressor there will be a tray. Please do not remove it, but use paper towelling, jay-cloths or similar to mop up as much of the build up as possible.
Then dilute some Milton sterilising liquid or bicarbonate of soda in an egg cup full of warm water and pour this down the drainage channel, which is located in the gulley above the ice cream display. This will ensure that any remaining bacteria or fungi that is collecting in the pipework or in the evaporator tray will be killed off and should get rid of the smell.
If you are experiencing some drainage issues we recommend a standard, plastic bendy drinking straw inserted into the drainage hole to a depth of 6 - 8 inches, this should move any blockage and hopefully solve the problem.
You could also use a pipe cleaner or cotton bud but we DO NOT suggest you use solid objects like screwdrivers.
Some noises eg compressor or fan operating noises happen for technical reasons. Noises like humming, hissing, bubbling or gurgling are normal and cannot be avoided. However any extreme noise should be checked by an engineer.
It is recommended that you wipe clean the unit every day to keep it looking clean and appealing. We recommend you do a full defrost once a week as a minimum. Remove the ice cream and store it elsewhere. Unplug and allow it to defrost, then clean with warm water.
Your freezer has been manufactured for indoors use and we do not recommend any freezer for outdoor use.
If however you want to take advantage of enhanced sales opportunities by moving it outside you should be aware that any warranty will be void and that you will be responsible for the repair, maintenance and ongoing mechanical up-keep of the unit.
If you do use outside, please observe the following:
- its power source must be protected from rain and damp (it is an electrical appliance and is dangerous if wet)
- protect it as much as possible from the elements (wind, rain, sun)
- protect from direct sunlight.
- If using an extension cable make sure it is a heavy duty type and we recommend only the freezer should be plugged into it.
- after moving it into position please allow time for the internal gasses to settle before plugging in. We recommend ?
You may notice an excess of condensation and ice build up - This is due to ambient temperature fluctuations and changes in the weather.
You may also notice your ice cream is melting on the top - This will be due to the greenhouse effect through the glass. Marshfield Farm Ice Cream will not be responsible for any loss of stock.
You will find that the dust build up on the motor and condenser coils accumulates faster - Your freezer will keep temperature better and last longer if you clean this dust away regularly.
Yes. We recommend that you leave at least 5cm free space around all sides of any unit to allow for good airflow. Failure to do this could result in poor performance or even it breaking down.
If you have a warranty issue with your freezer during the warranty period, please call the number on the back of the unit. You will need to advise them of the serial number and model which can also be found on the back of the unit.
We do not offer a service for units out of warranty, we can however provide details for local engineers that we use in your area – you are however under no obligation to use them.
In the first instance please check your freezer manual for information on how to adjust the temperature. Adjustment for every freezer is slightly different - we have recorded a series of videos on how to do this on our most popular freezers.
Check your power supply including that plug is not damaged, the extension lead is receiving power and that plugs are fully inserted into socket. Try another appliance that you know is working in the same socket.
We are accredited by SALSA (Safe and Local Supplier Approval), the food safety certification scheme. We are audited annually to demonstrate that we supply safe and legal food. SALSA standards that are recognised and accepted across the industry and exceed the minimum standards expected by enforcement authorities.
Our premises is approved by the APHA (Animal & Plant Health Agency) to make ice cream for dogs. Our licence number U1350191 ABP/PTF.
The site Technical and Quality team implement procedures to maintain site hygiene and reduce the risk of product contamination from storage of raw materials to production and packing of finished product.
Ensure you always shake excess water off your scoop, make sure that your freezer is cold enough and doesn’t fluctuate in temperature too much, and replace the clean lids of half-used tubs each night.
Luckily, it does not require much special attention. But it is worth doing the following: make sure the freezer is out of direct sunlight and ensure compressor vents are unobstructed, regularly wipe off condensation on glass sliding lids to prevent ice build-up, keep the lids clean and cover with the lid (or clingfilm) every night to prevent ice forming on the surface of the ice cream.
With proper management and consistency, you will get 30-35 scoops from a four-litre tub and 40-45 scoops from a Napoli tray.
For long-term storage you should store ice cream at -18C or below. If you are scooping the ice cream you may wish to run your freezer very slightly warmer to make it easier to scoop – many run their freezers at -16C in these situations.
