Dawn Hawking, one of our owners said it best on her Linked In.
"As third generation dairy farmers that have been farming organically since 1999 we understand why working in harmony with nature and farming in a more sustainable way is so important for the future.
So when we started our ice cream business these principles were at the forefront of how we ran Marshfield Farm. When it comes to energy and resources we try to be as self-sufficient as we can – having a dairy herd that produces over 50% of our Marshfield Farm branded ingredients on site, bore holes for all our water consumption, and over 1200 solar panels providing over 1/3 of our energy makes us happy. Not only have we’ve always prioritised local sourcing for our ingredients but try to use as many local businesses as possible.
When we were introduced to B Corp UK we thought it aligned with these principles. So encouraged by local BCorp experts and cheer leaders, we completed the B impact assessment (BIA) and hit 60 points out of the 80 required to be certified. Just the process of completing the assessment opened our eyes to what we could be doing better and that all the good stuff we were already doing was not formalised or documented into our management processes. It made us realise that the impact we can have as a business on our colleagues, our community and environment is much wider than we had initially thought.
We are a work in progress. We started the journey with Finlay Kenneth and his team at 3Keel LLP to help carbon footprint our whole ice cream business. The results of this and of what we currently do here at Marshfield Farm Ice Cream are in our first ever Impact Report….we want to be transparent from the start, so here we are…"
